The Church School and HIV/AIDS
One of the concerns of the First Episcopal District of the AME Church is the spread of HIV/AIDS, particularly in the Black community. The AME Church with other Black churches are supporting the I Stand with Magic (Johnson) Campaign against HIV/AIDS and the Balm in Gilead project.
It is clear that HIV/AIDS spreading rapidly in the Black community. It is also clear that through the church school we need to remind people of the benefits of abstinence from sex outside of marriage and the dangers of unprotected sex concerning the spread of HIV/AIDS. We need to let others know the way that the Down Low lifestyle spreads HIV/AIDS among "church women."
We need to let people now that HIV/AIDS is now a treatable disease, so everyone needs to be tested on a regular basis so they might receive treatment to save their lives and so they might not inadvertently spread HIV/AIDS to others.
